Unwrapped South Dublin takes place on Sat. 2nd Dec. 2017
Now in its’ 8th year, Unwrapped is the perfect family-friendly start to the Winter Festive Season.
Join us for a FREE outdoor participatory lantern parade A Little More Light to mark the beginning of the festive season.

Event Start 4:45pm at IT Tallaght

Parade of light along Old Blessington Road to Rua Red/CivicTheatre in Chamber Square where Dance Performances & Choral Singing will be followed by the official lighting of the Christmas Tree by South Dublin County Mayor Cllr. Paul Gogarty.

Meet Friends & Enjoy Hot Chocolate and Hot Fruit Punch to Finish the afternoon Event Finish: 6.15 pm

For UNWRAPPED 2017, over 200 participants including; children, young people and adults from South Dublin County’s youth, school, disability and community arts, performance and music groups will bring A Little More Light to the Winter Festive Season through dance, colourful lanterns and costumes.

Cat Dowling’s debut album The Believer has been getting great reviews since it was released last Friday. Much of the album was recorded in CONTACT Studio, it’s great to see Cat getting the recognition she deserves. You can hear (and buy!) the album from Bandcamp (below).


Taking place at Rua Red on Saturday March 23rd 11.00am – 4.00pm ,we are proud to introduce workshops in FX Prosthetic Make-up for Film & TV, A Stunt Making workshop for Film & TV and A Cinematography Workshop for Film & TV.

FX Prosthetic Make-up for Film & TV

Fiona Walsh, artist for Dr. Who and The Hobbit! will explain the world of. Prosthetic Makeup (also called FX prosthesis). Fiona promises a workshop that will both intrigue and inspire you. She will transform your imagination by teaching how to make the kind of creations that feature in horror and sci – fi films. Learn techniques from face and body ageing, to creating wounds and scars. Fiona is sure to let you in on some of Hollywood’s best make up secrets.

Stunt-Making workshop for film and TV

Peter Dillon and Eimear O’Grady from ‘Stunt Guild Ireland’ will lead a workshop in stunt making. Having worked on films such as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, Peter and Eimear will give an introduction on how stunts are made, using well-known films as examples. They’ll even be bringing along some costumes! Demonstrating skills of holding heavy weapons and dealing with costume challenges helmet/vision, shield/agility and hard Armour… This duo will also have participants getting physical with exercises in tumbling, break-falls, low-falls and theatrical theory. This workshop will be sure to benefit your stunt and acting skills.

You will leave the workshop having done some filming of your own stunts!

Cinematography Workshop for Film and TV

Whether you are interested in directing or shooting Matt Skinner will give you a grounding understanding of the elements of cinematography. Topics include film and video formats, filters, natural and practical lighting, and shooting for editing. A strong visual identity can be one of the most memorable elements from a film or filmmakers career. Matt has previously worked on productions featuring Morgan Freeman, Denis Hopper and Jackie Chan. He has also been Director of Photography for George Lucas and Stanley Kubrick.

The South Dublin County Council Arts Bursary Awards 2013 Application Forms are now available to download from our arts website or in the ‘Arts Grants and Bursaries’ section at http://arts.southdublin.ie

There are three categories this year for artists who live or work in South Dublin County Council administrative area as follows:-
Individual Artists Bursary Award
Young Artist Development Award (18-25 Years)
The Annette Halpin Memorial Award for young Musicians 2013.

Please note that the closing date for All Applications is 28th March 2013 at 1.00pm


South Dublin County Council and Tallaght Community Arts in partnership with The Bluecoat (Liverpool, UK) are seeking a filmmaker with web skills who is interested in working in the context of arts and disability.

With funding support from the Arts Council’s EU Local Partnership Scheme 2012, South Dublin County Council Arts Office, Tallaght Community Arts, and the Bluecoat in Liverpool are collaborating together on a transnational arts project involving artists with disabilities from the Blue Room (Liverpool) and Doors to Elsewhere (Tallaght, Dublin) groups.
